Condition:

The pictures are of the actual books being offered for sale, and reflect their actual condition. This is the nicest set of these books that I have ever seen. It was kept by the previous owner (the original subscriber) behind glass doors in barrister bookcases. Inevitably though, all sets of these books that have been used for display purposes, will have accrued some very slight, minor wear over the past 30 years, from exposure to light, dust, pollution, and the rare occasion when taken from the shelf, perhaps to be dusted or browsed, and then replaced.

The following is an exhaustive listing of all flaws or wear found by a close inspection of each volume in this set.

  • The majority of the volumes in this set have no visible flaws or wear and are in FINE CONDITION.
  • Five of the books have a tiny bit of wear of the page-edge gold, where the bottom corner of a heavy textblock has slightly rubbed against the shelf. They have no other flaws or wear, and are in NEAR FINE CONDITION.
  • One title in this set, The Pilgrim's Progress, has a sunned (faded) rawhide leather spine. The gold lettering and gold decoration on the spine is unaffected. (See the second picture above.) It has no other flaws or wear and is still a very handsome book in VERY GOOD CONDITION.
  • Seven other volumes have slight sun-fading of the color on the leather spines. The gold lettering and gold decoration on the spines is unaffected. They have no other flaws or wear and are in VERY GOOD PLUS CONDITION.
  • A third of the volumes have minor, very slight rubbing of the gold on the page edges and/or minor, slight marks or micro-indentations in the page edge gold, but with no loss of gold from the page edges in either case. They have no other flaws or wear and are in NEAR FINE CONDITION.
  • There is a small rub near the bottom of the leather spine of The Divine Comedy. (See the second picture above.) It has no other flaws or wear and is in VERY GOOD PLUS CONDITION.
  • The remainder of the books are in flawless FINE CONDITION.

PRICE: USD $3750.00
